Cari compagni,
vi scriviamo per conto del movimento giovanile indipendentista basco per informarvi di una nuova iniziativa internazionale.
Siamo emersi dalla gioventù di un paese che vive sotto il dominio della Spagna e della Francia, nel cuore dell’Europa capitalista. sono passati molti anni da quando abbiamo cominciato la nostra battaglia – più di trentuno. I nostri primi passi sono stati mossi per far nascere organizzazioni giovanili e collettivi fondati sulla lotta per la giustizia sociale e la libertà, per permetterci di costruire il nostro futuro.
Il nostro movimento ha messo radici solide col passare del tempo. Al momento siamo organizzati in varie giovanili che combattono su fronti diversi: femministe, ecologiste, internazionaliste, per l’autodeterminazione, per il diritto alla casa.
La lotta per la costruzione di un’altra società ci è costata molto. Il nemico, timoroso dei nostri sogni e della nostra forza, ha tenuto diversi processi per reprimerci. Tuttavia abbiamo risposto con fermezza ai suoi attacchi.
Per esempio, il 19 gennaio 2007 lo stato spagnolo ha dichirato terroristi tutti i membri di Segi. Centinaia di giovani sono stati arrestati e torturati con questo pretesto. Abbiamo anche subito massicce operazioni di polizia. Eppure il nostro unico crimine è stato quello di avere convinioni sociali e politiche.
La più recente operazione di polizia contro di noi è avvenuta il 23 novembre del 2009. Quella notte 34 giovani sono stati fermati da più di 650 poliziotti, sono stati torturati mentre erano in isolamento, dopo di che sono stati mandati tutti in prigione tranne due.
Nonostante tutto, perseveriamo nell’ impegno per la nostra battaglia. Tuttavia il vostro appoggio è più che necessario per farci continuare a lottare. Ecco perché vi chiediamo di firmare a sostegno del nostro manifesto basato su tre richieste principali. Vi chiediamo inoltre di presentarlo ai rappresentanti spagnoli e francesi presenti nel vostro paese ed alle loro ambasciate. Siamo sicuri che ci ritroveremo nella lotta.

Dear Comrades,
We write to you on behalf of the Basque pro-independence youth movement to inform you about a new international initiative.
We emerged from the youth of a country living under the rule of the Spanish and French states, in the heart of capitalist Europe. Many years have passed since we began our struggle – more than thirty-one. Our first steps were taken in creating youth organisations and collectives based on the struggle for social justice and freedom in order to enable us to build our future.
Our movement has put down strong roots as time went by. Currently we are organised in different youth organisations fighting on different fronts: feminist, ecologist, internationalist, for self-determination, for housing rights …
The struggle to build another society has cost us dearly. The enemy, afraid of our dreams and strength, has held several repressive judicial trials in order to stop us. Nevertheless, we have given a firm response to their attacks.
For example, on 19th January 2007 the Spanish state declared all Segi members to be terrorists. Hundreds of youth have been arrested and tortured under that pretext. We have experienced many massive police operations too. Yet our only offense has been to hold social and political convictions.
The most recent police operation against us took place on the 23rd November 2009. That night 34 youths were arrested by more than 650 police, then tortured while held incommunicado, after which they were all sent to prison except two.
Nevertheless we hold firm in our commitment to our struggle. However, your support is more than necessary for us to continue with the fight. That is why we ask you to sign in support of our manifesto based on three main demands. We also ask you to present it to the Spanish and French representatives in your country and the embassies in both states.
We trust that we shall find one another in the struggle.
